Tate Liverpool.

Anthony Gormley: Field.

I was lucky enough to see the British Isles version of  'Field' four years ago in the Tate Liverpool.
The first Field instillation was made in America in 1990. Thirty thousand figures were made by around 60 people. Participants were given a simple brief: Create a hand sized easy to to hold figure, eyes are to be deep and closed with the head in proportion with the body.
Figures ranged in size from 8 - 26 cm in height.
Liverpool created a locally made instillation four years after displaying the original. This was made in the same way by people in the local area's.
The exhibit is extremely memorable as their are so many pieces to make up one piece. The figures are human like but when they are together they form a landscape effect. The exhibit was placed in a room and filled up every inch so onlookers could only peer through the door which limited perspective. But the little figures are returning our gaze through the door so are we the exhibit?

The Tate describe the installation as an invasion that has become temporarily limited by the architecture of the room.
A bit like a goldfish that grows to the size of its tank?
